Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes P.K. Jayalakshmi will inaugurate the Adivasi Gramotsav-2015, organised by the Thudi Kalakendra, a socio-cultural movement of the indigenous people, at Echome, near Kambalakkad, on Sunday.
Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer will open the newly constructed boarding block for tribal children. Social activist C.K. Janu will be the chief guest.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Baby Chalil, director of Thudi Kalakendra, said the boarding facility would help in the overall development of tribal children.
Though the government had set up model residential schools and pre-metric hostels for tribal children, they were yet to make any desired impact in the education of tribal children, he said.
The boarding school of the organisation envisaged a holistic approach to the education of tribal children, he said.
Art forms
The boarding would cater to as many as 40 children, he said. Various ethnic art forms such as Vattakkali of Paniya tribe, Gaddhika of Adiya tribe, and traditional art forms of Muthuvan and Kurumbar tribesmen of Attappady would be performed during the gramotsav, he added.
