The Prisons Department issued a charge memo to controversial Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Prisons) P.N. Jayasimha on Wednesday, a day before his retirement.

According to officials, Mr. Jayasimha has been accused of misusing funds while he was the Superintendent of the central jail of Mysuru three years ago. He will not be eligible for retirement benefits now.

Allegations against Mr. Jayasimha were proved during a departmental inquiry, a senior police officer said and confirmed that the department had issued a memo to him.

Mr. Jayasimha was booked in 2003 for helping stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi to continue his business even in jail. He was arrested and charged, but was acquitted in the case in 2010, following which he was reinstated.
