Digvijaya’s letter to the SIT chairman comes days after the CM wrote to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi demanding action against the AICC general secretary.

Hitting back at the Special Investigation Team that termed his evidence against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam scam as forged, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh accused the High Court-appointed SIT and probe agency STF of suppressing truth to shield high-profile persons, including the CM.

Digvijaya’s letter to the SIT chairman comes days after the CM wrote to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi demanding action against the AICC general secretary for implicating him in the case.

In his letter to SIT chairman Justice (retd) Chandresh Bhushan, Digvijaya said he was “appaled by the approach adopted by the Special Task Force (STF) in such a sensitive case’’, and also took objection to the SIT not sending the pen drive and the report of Bangalore-based Truth Labs to a central forensic laboratory, but instead relying on a demonstration by the STF. The SIT last week in a report to the High Court had opined that the evidence in the pen drive was forged and it was done with an intention to mislead the investigation in the examination and recruitment scam.

Digvijaya’s “evidence” referred to the alleged tampering of a hard disk seized from a former MPPEB official, which he alleged, was done to ensure a clean chit to Chouhan. The Congress leader also submitted the Truth Labs report in support his allegation.

In his letter, Digvijaya alleged it was the STF which tampered with the hard disk and that the SIT relied on the same agency to summarily reject the tampering charge. “It is a curious case where the same investigating agency whose credentials have been questioned is giving a demonstration regarding ‘forged content’. The STF has till now made every effort to subvert the investigation,’’ said the letter.

Festive offer

The AICC general secretary said no one from the Bangalore lab was called to explain the content of the pen drive and that the STF took no steps to contact whistleblower Prashant Pandey who through his counsel had forwarded the pen drive with sensitive contents to the Delhi High Court and Madhya Pradesh HC.
