The Rewari Municipal Council, which has been facing serious allegations of irregularities in developmental works and implementation of government schemes, had opened 53 accounts in various banks to handle the municipal funds/grant issued by the government.

The fact came out during the investigation being done by the Rewari City Magistrate, Bharat Bhushan Gogia, into the allegations levelled by Satish Khola, district chief of the Bharatiya Jananta Party, in his written complaint filed in the CM window.

Taking a serious view of the number of bank accounts, the City Magistrate has sought the statements of each account from 2013 to 2015 so as to find out details of the exact amount deposited and withdrawn.

In his complaint, Khola has alleged that the MC authorities had deliberately misused the government funds meant for schemes and developmental works by violating the norms in the past couple of years. “Developmental works worth crores of rupees were carried out without inviting tenders, with an intention to benefit contractors,” said Khola. “Electronic items used for maintenance of street lights were purchased at double market rates and that too without issuing any tender,” he alleged.

Sources say the MC authorities have started getting the unnecessary bank accounts closed. Meanwhile, Gogia said, “During investigation, we found an audit report which has raised objection over 47 bank accounts by terming them as unnecessary. I have sought a detailed report about these accounts to ascertain their authenticity.”
