Free diagnostic services by Dec.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced that a free diagnostics service scheme will be launched in the State by the end of this year.

While launching free drug distribution scheme (FDDS) ‘Niramaya’ here, Mr Patnaik said through the Odisha Medical Services Corporation (OSMC), the government would establish basic minimum diagnostics at different levels of health care.

“By the end of this year, basic minimum free diagnostics would be available at various health facilities,” he said.

According to health department sources, public health laboratories would be established in the district hospitals where equipment like auto-analysers and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) machines would be available.

Besides, there would be facility to conduct tests for malaria, dengue, HIV, Hepatitis A, B and E, tuberculosis, waterborne diseases other than basic tests such as complete blood count, blood sugar, bilirubin, urea, keratin, sodium and potassium.
