Mysuru rape case: Murthys get bail

Dr C. B. Murthy and Mrs Nalina Murthy were granted anticipatory bail on Tuesday

MYSURU: Dr C. B. Murthy and Mrs Nalina Murthy, the in-laws of retired IAS officer’s daughter, facing charges of dowry harassment, domestic violence and abetment to rape and attempt to murder, were granted anticipatory bail on Tuesday even as the local police continued to search for their son Dr Prabudhdha Harsha Murthy, the prime accused in the case.

The fourth and seventh additional district and sessions’ judge, Roopa Nayak, asked the couple to furnish sureties of Rs one lakh each, but listed six conditions including one that they should surrender before the investigating officer within 15 days and assist him during the course of investigation, their advocate Mr Arun Kumar said.

The application for advance bail moved by Dr Prabudhdha Harsha Murthy would come up for hearing on Wednesday. Local police officers said that they would arrest the prime accused before he secures anticipatory bail.

Police said the case against the Murthys maybe bolstered by testimony from Vijayamma, a maid mentioned in the complaint, who contrary to the victim’s statement continued to work in Dr Murthy’s house. In addition, driver Veerabhadra, whom the victim said died under mysterious circumstances after being a witness to sexual advances made by her brother-in-law, in fact died in a road accident in Nanjangud.
