GURGAON: Residents of 14 condominiums in DLF Phase V came together on Tuesday to collect relief materials for the victims of the Nepal earthquake, and have tied up with the Nepalese Embassy to transport the aid to the Himalayan nation.
The participating condominiums are The Aralias, The Magnolias, The Summit, Park Place, The Pinnacle, The Icon, The Belaire, Trinity Towers, Royalton Tower, Wellington Estate, Carlton Estate, Westend Heights, Princeton Estate and DLF Exclusive Floors.
Collection offices have been set up in each condominium.
Times cares: Reach out, aid Nepal
The residents have decided not to send used materials, and have formed groups that will collect a certain category of the aid like household supplies, food, medicines etc, separately. A special arrangement has thus been made to by the community to allow vendors on the premises for residents to buy relief material.
“Even though we can donate the same amount of fund to Red Cross or the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, the country (Nepal) needs relief material immediately. Therefore, at this point of time, it is a wise decision to facilitate buying of the relief material,” said Garima Chandra, a resident of The Aralias.
To collect a good amount of relief material within a few days, groups have been formed within condominiums. “We don’t want to collect just food items or medicines. So, we have formed groups and each group has to give different items. For example, if one group wants to give medicine, the other group will donate sleeping bags and blankets. However, residents are free to donate anything,” said a resident of The Magnolias.

Residents have also been asked to donate dry ration, biscuits, canned food, blankets/ sleeping bags, essential medicines, first aid kits, tents, tarpaulin/thick plastic sheets, mats, disinfectants like bleaching powder, feeding bottles/baby food and sanitary napkins.
The condos are expected to dispatch the material within four to five days. They will deliver the relief items to the Nepalese Embassy that will fly the aid to worst affected areas. “We would like to provide immediate help to areas that are the worst affected. We heard trucks carrying relief materials are stuck on roads due to rains, so we tied up with the Nepalese Embassy that is sending relief material by air,” said Saif Misbaha, a member of the collecting community.
More than 8,000 families live in the 14 condominiums.
