When Srihari Balakrishnan, Managing Director of KG Fabriks visited an expo abroad, one of his client - a merchandiser, Balakrishnan says was keen to see the fabric design range from the KG stable.

"Our portfolio is huge, but it is not always possible to carry all the samples and go places. I showed the few samples that I had taken along and vowed to address this limitation, Balakrishnan told Business Line unveiling the company's (KG Fabrik's) refurbished site, to be launched officially on May 1.

The B2B site is a storehouse of KG Fabriks' collection of denim prints, denim dobbies, denim jacquards and Indigo stripes and checks. The company has uploaded 500+ curated designs in various categories. Balakrishnan is planning to expand the design portfolio ten-fold in 12 months.

The company has engaged a design team to ensure that at least 40 to 100 designs are rolled out week after week.

"Garment makers, merchandisers, fashion and costume designers will, with the launch of this site, be able to view the entire design range, see how the Indigo category of fabrics look after wash, and how denim prints and jacquard design collection look when adorned, based on which they can place the order for the sample," he said adding that the website initiative would help shorten the merchandisers’ decision making time from about 4 weeks at present to a week after May 1.

He further clarified that all the designs would not be manufactured in-house. "We have tied-up with suppliers, 3 - 4 weavers to reduce the turnaround time.

The company is gearing up to roll out a mobile app to facilitate design viewing on the go. "It would be in place within the next 2 -3 months", KG Fabriks MD said.
