Kuznetsova crashes out in Prague

Two-time grand slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova was on the wrong end of an opening day upset at the Prague Open on Monday.

Kuznetsova, winner of both the French Open and US Open, was beaten 6-4 6-3 by China's Shuai Zhang.

The Russian was not the only seed to be going home early as sixth seed Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Czech Katerina Siniakova.

The 18-year-old will now face Slovenian Polona Hercog who had to battle for more than three hours to see off Britain's Heather Watson 7-5 3-6 7-6 (7/5).

Eighth seed Camila Giorgi is also out, losing 4-6 6-3 7-5 to Yanina Wickmayer.

Fifth seed Alize Cornet overcame wild-card Kristina Schmiedlova 6-3 6-3.

Wild-card Denisa Allertova beat Coco Vandeweghe 6-4 6-1 and there were also wins for Elena Vesnina and Aleksandra Krunic.
