Next Asus Zenwatch to come in 2016, likely to have its own OS

Asus's successor to its first ZenWatch is hitting the stands next year only. Tipped to be called the Asus ZenWatch 2 will arrive in two variants.

NDTV Gadgets reported that the Asus CEO Jerry Shen, during his short visit to New Delhi for the launch of the ZenFone 2 lineup, has told them that the ZenWatch 2, which is under works, will not get launched this year.

However, in December last year Shen had remarked that the watch would be launched in 2015. These new comments are just a contradiction to his earlier ones.

FocusTaiwan has also reported that Shen in December at a launch of ZenWatch in Taiwan had announced that the next version would be released in Q3 2015.

The Zenwatch 2 will reportedly come in two versions-the male and the female version. It is not clear whether this male and female version of the next watch will have different designs also or just different straps for customization.

Asus has also made it clear that it has till date no plans to bring its first generation ZenWatch to India.

Shen also told NDTV Gadgets that Asus plans to come up with its own OS for the next ZenWatch, but will also be continuing with Android Wear side-by-side in future. "We work on increasing the wearable device's battery life and the overall performance, which we might see in ZenWatch 2."
