Fergie hopes to be surpassed

Alex Ferguson would be happy for another manger to overtake his trophy record at Manchester United

Alex Ferguson says nothing would make him happier than watching another manager eclipse his trophy haul for Manchester United.

The Scot amassed 38 trophies in 27 years at United, and his success led to a stand being named after him at Old Trafford and a bronze statue of him being erected outside.

But he says there would be no sour grapes if anyone surpassed him.

"We had a wonderful run of success and we won a lot of trophies," he told the Sunday People. "But I really hope someone comes along and breaks my record here.

"I'd like to see another manager come in and win 45 trophies. Nothing would make me happier."
