ANP plans to call APC on economic corridor issue

Asfand says equal share in projects for provinces can strengthen federation

PESHAWAR - Awami National Party Central President Asfandyar Wali Khan has announced to convene an all parties conference (APC) in Balochistan against proposed change in Gwadar-Kashghar economic corridor and warned the federal government to take all parties into confidence on this matter of national importance.
"We welcome the China projects and investment for Pakistan and hope that all provinces will get equal benefits from these projects," Asfandyar remarked while addressing a press conference here at Bilour House Peshawar on Sunday.
He added that the politics of confrontation is not in favour of national integration and all matters need to be resolved through mediation and consultation among the federating units.
He said that China is giving much importance to this route and they want to improve the economic condition of the militancy affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that is why they have proposed this route.
He informed that through this route Punjab will get 70 per cent benefit while 30 per cent benefit would be distributed among rest of the three provinces along with Gilgit Baltistan.
He said that it is not justice to keep Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Blochistan in backward conditions and they will not accept such plans which undermine the prosperity and development of their province.
He maintained that ANP is going to hold APC in Balochistan to apprise the leadership of Balochsitan along with leaders of other provinces on latest development of Pak-China economic corridor.
He said that despite the political rivalries between ANP and PTI, the former would not compromise on the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the ANP delegation will again meet with the Chinese ambassador to appraise him regarding the KP's reservations.
Asfandyar said that the agreements signed with China will usher a new era of development and prosperity for the country but unfortunately certain elements are making conspiracies and putting hurdles in this corridor.
