Feroz N. Sait, MLA, has proposed to construct a 200-ft tall flag post at the mini island within the fort lake at the entrance of the city.
“The flag post will instil nationalism and patriotic fervour among the people. I was inspired by the national flag hoisted at the national military memorial in Bengaluru and decided to install a similar post at the fort lake,” he said here on Sunday. Mr. Sait said a proposal had been sent to the government and an approval was expected soon. Details of the project would be worked out once the government gave a green signal. To a question, he said steps would be take to observe the protocol for hoisting and un-hoisting the national flag.
Mr. Sait, who showcased works taken up in his Belagavi North Assembly constituency before the presspersons, said the lake and the island were attracting migratory birds every year and some had made it their home permanently. The need of the hour was to change the city into clean and beautiful, he added.
