In a bid to identify anonymous persons and prevent thefts in the district headquarters, police officials conducted cordoned off various localities of Srikakulam town and conducted search operation on Sunday.
With the directive from Srikakulam Superintendent of Police A.S. Khan, police teams led by DSP K. Bharagava Naidu and other senior officials visited Aditya Nagar, Arasavalli and other places and conducted house-to-house searches as part of the operation. They collected information from the residents. Recently, miscreants have stolen car and cash from a marketing manager’s house near Saraswati Theatre. In another incident, watches worth around Rs.20 lakh were stolen from a showroom recently. Chain snatchings cases also continued unabated in many places including Visakha-A colony, Banker’s Colony and other areas.
Sources say, many miscreants from other areas might have settled down as tenants on the town outskirts. In view of the spurt in crimes, police conducted house-hold survey in selected streets.
Mr. Bharagava Naidu said that the operation also aimed at creating awareness among people about the precautions to be taken while renting out their premises. He suggested that people should verify the antecedents of the tenants before renting out their houses.
