BJP MLAs surrender LPG subsidy

April 26, 2015 10:53 pm | Updated 10:53 pm IST - Patna:

Apparently complying with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to well off people to give up LPG subsidy, all Bihar BJP legislators on Sunday surrendered the benefit.

“All BJP MLAs and MLCs have surrendered their LPG subsidy (amounting to Rs. 3,000 per year per connection) with immediate effect,” senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters.

“We appeal to all those who can afford to purchase LPG cylinder at market rate to surrender subsidy,” he said.

Mr. Modi also urged BJP office-bearers to give up LPG subsidy as the move will serve the larger public interest. It may be mentioned that BJP has 86 MLAs and 17 MLCs in both houses of the Bihar legislature.
