MANGALURU: Ramakrishna Mission carried out Swachh Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath - cleanliness drive for 13th consecutive Sunday opposite Mangaluru City Corporation at Lalbagh here. Dinesh Holla, eminent environmentalist inaugurated the drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, head of the Mission.Shubhoday Alva, Satyanarayana K V, Vineetha Rai, NSS co-ordinator, Lakshminarayana, GGM, MRPL, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake and other prominent citizens.

Employees of Ambuja Cement, Monkey Stand Friends Circle, students of Ramakrishna Mission Balakashrama and other devotees and well-wishers of the Mission took an active part in the drive.
As Mangaluru is gearing up for the ensuing Federation Cup there were several voices against the poor preparation and dirt near the venue. Atmarupachaitanya, coordinator said the Mission planned to do something about this filth and went ahead with planning days before the drive.
A group of volunteers led by swamiji himself cleaned the weeds and removed the dirt and garbage thus cleaning the area near Mangalore City Corporation. Students of Balakashrama cleaned the bus shelter opposite MCC and painted the bus shelter. There were several potholes on the footpath near Mangala Stadium from Pabbas in Lalbagh to Ladyhill. This was posing danger to those using the footpath and would have inconvenienced those participating in the Federation Cup.
Ramakrishna Mission identified about 15 such holes and with the help of senior volunteers got the concrete slabs done in its premises and covered the holes and completed the repair work. MRPL, principal patron of this initiative supported this drive. This is a part of the 40 weeks cleanliness drive being organized by the Mission which got underway on February 1. The volunteers had cleaned up the deputy commissioner’s office premises on April 19 as part of the drive.
