Jubilant Watford Join The Top Table

Watford secured promotion to the Premier League as Middlesbrough and Norwich suffered late blows to their hopes of top-two finishes.

The Hornets maintained top spot and moved four points clear with a 2-0 victory at Brighton in the early kick-off, before seeing the Canaries' 10 men held to a 1-1 draw at Rotherham, while Boro lost 4-3 at Fulham.

Bournemouth can now effectively secure promotion when they host Bolton on Monday night due to their vastly superior goal difference to Aitor Karanka's third-placed men, with a victory sending them three points clear.

The Millers could have secured their survival with three points, but will now have to win their game in hand against Reading on Wednesday to prevent the relegation battle from going down to the final day of the season.

Steve Evans' men were deducted three points earlier in the week for fielding an ineligible player but have stated their intent to appeal the decision.
