Ranjith Kumar (37) of Thamalerimuthur near Tirupattur, who was arrested by the Food Cell Police for hoarding rice meant for the public distribution system close to the railway track near the railway signal in Thamalerimuthur on April 17, was on Saturday booked under the Goondas Act on the orders of the Vellore District Collector.
Habitual offender
The accused was arrested when he was waiting to hand over the rice to a contact coming by train. Three tonnes of PDS rice was seized from him.
According to police sources, he used to frequently commit the offence at the spot where trains used to stop for the signal.
