Pottanplavu, a village situated in the foothills of the Western Ghats in the eastern areas of the district, is now ‘dairy village’ with the launching of the Ksheera Gramam project of the State government.

The village in Eruvessi grama panchayat, in the hill areas of the district, is one of the two places in the State selected for implementing the Ksheera Gramam project this year.

The State-level inauguration of the project was conducted by Rural Development Minister K.C. Joseph at the village on April 24. The project is being implemented by the State Dairy Development Department.

Twelve dairy farmers were handed over cows at the inaugural function on Friday as part of the project. Financial assistance for building cow sheds was also given to 12 farmers, while 10 others were provided milking equipment. In the first phase, Rs.40 lakh has been set apart for the project in the village.
