Tiruchi town gets 65 mm rain

The city and several parts of the district received sharp showers on Friday night, providing relief from the searing summer heat.

Heavy to moderate rain, accompanied by strong winds, lashed the city for over an hour at night. Tiruchi town recorded the maximum of 65 mm of rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. The following is the chief amount of rainfall recorded in other parts of the district during the same period (in mm): Tiruchi Junction 48.40; Thuraiyur 42; Ponnaniyar Dam 41.20; Musiri, Kuppampatti and Pulivalam 40 each; Nandhiyar Head 37.60; Marungapuri 30.50; Navalurkuttapattu 27.30; Thuavakudi 27; Thenparanadu 23; Golden Rock 22.40; Kallakudi 22.10; Samayapuram 22; Tiruchi Airport 18.50; Devimangalam 16.60; Vathalai Anaicut 16.20; Thathaiyengarpet 16; Pullampadi 12.40; Sirukudi 12 and Manapparai 6.40. The district received an average rainfall of 25.40 mm.
