The Brooklyn Nets got back into their series with the Atlanta Hawks on the strength of an impressive defensive effort. It was necessary given that the Nets only shot 39 percent from the field.

The Nets won Game 3, 91-83 on Saturday afternoon, cutting the Hawks' lead in the series to 2-1. Here's how their defense controlled the game

Difference-Maker: Brook Lopez

Center Brook Lopez led the Nets with 22 points and 13 rebounds, but that doesn’t fully detail the impact he had.

Video review showed that the Hawks shot 1-of-17 on the shots that Lopez contested, including 0-of-8 when shooting at the rim.

The Hawks are now 5-of-21 when shooting at the rim against Lopez in this series.

Korver shut out

Kyle Korver went 1-of-8 from the field, but more notably, he was 0-of-5 from 3-point range. That was his most 3-point attempts without a make in any game this season.

Korver had his streak of seven straight playoff games with at least three 3-pointers end. It’s tied with Ray Allen for the longest such streak in NBA history.

Nothing doing in 1-on-1

The Hawks struggled to find their touch in Game 3 due in large part to taking a lot of shots in 1-on-1 situations. The divvying up of shots in this manner normally works alright for them, but it didn't in this game.

The Hawks shot 10-of-41 (24 percent) when a pass didn't directly lead to a shot, compared to 22-of-49 (45 percent) shooting on attempts that came directly from a pass.
