Raman, Sameer, Shafqat steal show as Simula Superstars, Chenab Tigers script victories

JAMMU, Apr 25: It was extraordinary bowling display by Raman Dutta, superb innings at crunch situation by Sameer Khajuria and the display of guts, grit, grace and composure by skipper Shafqat Baba that helped their teams to register emphatic victories over their rivals in the ongoing Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL), being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
Dutta and Shafqat did it for Chenab Tigers, while Khajuria and Hilal Rather did the job for Simula Superstars.
In the first match, Simula Superstars defeated Banihal Knight Riders by 15 runs, while in the event session, Chenab Tigers got better of Jammu Khalsa Kings XI by 4 wickets.
Yoginder Koul, IGP IR Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, who was accompanied by Shakeel A Beig, IGP Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range and General Secretary PPCPL and other dignitaries on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Koul said that such tournaments give impetus to the talent of young cricketers in the State. He also inspected the monitoring room of the 3rd umpire and appreciated the efforts of the management committee for conducting the tournament in a systematic way. He also gave away the cash prizes and trophies to the winning team and outstanding players.
Earlier, in the first match, Simula Superstars winning the toss and batting first scored a fighting total of 122 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Sameer Khajuria played a magnificent innings of 29 runs, while Gulzar contributed valuable 23 runs to the total.
In reply, Banihal Knight Riders managed to score 107 runs and lost the match by 15 runs. For Simula Superstars, Hilal Rather, Habib, Hardeep and Kuldeep took 2 wickets each. Sameer Khajuria of Simula Superstars was declared as man of the match.
In another match, Khasla Kings won the toss and elected to bat first to score a modest total of 100 runs. Inderjit Singh and skipper Kavaljit Singh contributed 20 runs each, while Parveen Singh chipped in with 17 runs. For Chenab Tigers, Raman Dutta was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 6 important wickets by conceding 19 runs in his 4 overs, while Shafqat Baba, Khalid Akhter and Abid Mushtaq claimed one wicket each. Chenab Tigers chased the score easily after some early hiccups and won the match by 4 wickets. Mohd Mohsin (29) runs Ishtiaq Rasool (20) were the main contributors, while Shafqat Baba and Manzoor Pandov played unbeaten cameos in the end to take their side to home.For Jammu Khalsa Kings XI, Inderjit Singh took 4 wickets, while Deepak Singh Manhas and Manik Gupta took 1 wickets each. Raman Dutta of Chenab Tigers was declared as man of the match. He also won the award for taking best catch of the match, while Ishtiaq Rasool was awarded for hitting most number of sixes.
In tomorrow’s fixture, JKP Tigers will take on BCC Bulls in the first match, while Jammu Khalsa Kings XI will face Jammu Royal Choice XI in the 2nd session.
