4 of family killed in E-way accident

Four persons from Navi Mumbai, including two women, were killed and eight were injured after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) they were travelling in rammed into a truck from behind near Baur on the Pune Mumbai Expressway in the early hours of Saturday. The condition of four of the eight injured was said to be critical.

Police have identified the deceased as Kasim Kazir Patel (76), Hameedabi Kasim Patel (64), Parveen Muzammil Patel (35), Irfan Ahmed Biradar (12), all residents of Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai.

Police said the family is originally from Nilanga taluka in Latur district of Maharashtra and currently is based in Mumbai for business.

According to police, the driver of the Scorpio could not judge the distance of the truck in the front and rammed into it from behind. The incident took place around 5.30 pm near Baur on Expressway.
