Several bear sightings reported near residential areas
Leicester police are warning residents to beware of bears after several bear sightings over the past several days. On Saturday, Leicester resident Lizzie Mac said three bears appeared in her yard on Stafford Street near the Worcester line. Mac said the bears were eating out of the bird feeder, and got scared off by a camera flash before police arrived at the scene. Police received a report that a large bear wearing a tracking collar was wandering in the area of Pleasant Street. In another sighting, police received report that a large bear and cub had climbed a tree next to an occupied home.Leicester police said they have notified the Massachusetts Environmental Police of the recent sighting. Police are advising residents to remove all bird feeders and other food sources that could attract bears from their yards. Residents in the area are being advised that all pets should be closely monitored, especially when outside. Anyone who spots a bear should call police immediately.
