Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said on Saturday that it was Welshman Ryan Giggs who is likely to succeed him.

"I expect that he (Giggs) will be the next manager after I am gone. Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well," Van Gaal was quoted as saying by MUTV.

The 41-year-old Giggs, who has made 963 appearances for United as a player, did take over as interim manager last season after David Moyes was sacked but on van Gaal's arrival, Giggs was made his assistant.

Giggs had won two, drawn one and lost one during his stint. As a player he had won a remarkable 25 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
