A 55-year-old farmer Govind Vanpariya attempted to immolate self in front of district collector's office in Jamnagar on Friday.However, police foiled the attempt and detained Vanpariya.

RAJKOT: A 55-year-old farmer Govind Vanpariya attempted to immolate self in front of district collector's office in Jamnagar on Friday. However, police foiled the attempt and detained Vanpariya.
Vanpariya, who belongs to Sanodar village of Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar, claimed that he tried to immolate self because the company which had set up two wind mills on his 12 bigha land had refused to vacate the place despite end of contract.

"I had an agreement with the company who had set up wild mills on my agricultural land. It was three years agreement from 2004 to 2007. But even after the agreement was over, they do not remove their wild mills from my farm," Vanpariya alleged.
"I made representations to government officials but nothing happened so I decided to immolate myself in public," he told media persons.
Vanpariya had come armed with kerosene on Friday morning at the collector's office. As soon as he doused himself with kerosene and was about the light the match, police and people in the campus caught him.
This was the second incident where farmer has tried to immolate self. Earlier, on Wednesday, Ramsinh Dodiya, a farmer from Anandpar village of Kodinar taluka of Gir Somnath district attempted to immolate self over his crop failure but was detained by police.
