BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Human Rights Commission on Friday issued notice to superintendent of VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Burla and Sambalpur SP in connection with the deaths of three women in the institute on April 10. Acting on a petition filed by advocate Prabir Kumar Das, a division bench of Justice Bira Kishore Mishra and Bijay Kumar Patnaik directed for a report in the matter within 30 days, Das said.

In his petition, Das prayed for a high-level inquiry cause of deaths and fixing responsibility, Rs 10 lakh compensation each for kin of the victims and preventive measures to stop reoccurrence of such incidents.
The state government has announced Rs one lakh compensation each to the next of kin of the three women. The women died six hours after they underwent a caesarean section in the hospital.
