Om Puri will be seen in a Marathi film titled '15 August bhagile 26 January', directed by veteran Marathi filmmaker, Pitambar Kale.
The National Award winner plays the main protagonist in this forthcoming film and will portray the role of a political leader. The shooting of the film has already begun in Pune. When we caught up with the actor, he said, 'Marathi cinema is doing exceptionally well and I'm glad to make a debut in this celebrated genre at this particular juncture.'
But, reports claim that it was the film named 'Ghashiram Kotwal', made in the late 70s, which was supposed to be Om's first Marathi movie, but the actor made it clear that '15 August...' is his debut Marathi project.
'Though I played the lead character Ghashiram in the film adaptation of Vijay Tendulkar's epic play 'Ghashiram Kotwal', I had no dialogues at all, and secondly, that abstract film made by Mani Kaul and K Hariharan, never got released. So, it is Pitambar's film, which marks my debut in the Marathi industry,' he clarified.
Will the audience get to hear him mouthing some Marathi dialogues? 'Though majority of my dialogues are in Hindi, I will deliver a few dialogues in Marathi as well,' he said and added, 'I came to Maharashtra in the 70s but I feel embarrassed that I have still not been able to master the language. I'm seriously working on my Marathi these days.'
