Sayajipura housing: Bandukwala detained
VADODARA: Activist J S Bandukwala was detained by police on Friday when he staged a demonstration outside Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) near Khanderao Market. Bandukwala and other activists were protesting against delay in issuing allotment letters to hundreds of Muslim families whose homes were demolished about five months ago in Kalyannagar.
Bandukwala alleged that the Muslim families are not being given homes in Kalali and Sayajipura due to political reasons.
"Bandukwala, Zuber Goplani and others were detained by the police and taken away to the city police headquarters in Pratapnagar. We were demonstrating against the delay in allotting homes to hundreds of Muslim families who have been rendered homeless after Kalyannagar slum demolitions. The municipal commissioner didn't meet us but the police detained many activists," said Shaukat Indori, one of the activists who demonstrated near VMC headquarters.
"We have decided to demonstrate daily in front of VMC headquarters till the time they don't issue allotment letters," Indori said. Bandukwala said education of children of those rendered homeless is suffering apart from the livelihood of people and he asked the VMC to issue allotment letters to the families as early as possible.
"Usually, VMC issues allotment letters within a day or two after the draw. But in this case the draw happened on April 8 but 302 houses are yet to be allotted to the affected families. The VMC is neither issuing the letters nor saying anything to us," Indori added.
