Yankees belt three bombs against Jacob deGrom

NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom's pinpoint control was absent Friday night at Yankee Stadium. As a result, he surrendered three homers and six runs -- both matching career highs -- and the New York Mets' 11-game winning streak ended with a 6-1 loss to the New York Yankees.

Mark Teixeira homered twice and Jacoby Ellsbury also went deep before deGrom retired the final eight batters he faced. DeGrom completed five innings.

"I was just leaving the ball up," deGrom said. "I was having a hard time getting it down and just wasn't executing my pitches."

On a frigid night at Yankee Stadium, deGrom insisted the cold was not a factor.

"I was throwing it fine in the bullpen," deGrom said. "When I went in the game, I don't know if it was a little adrenaline or something, but I was leaving the ball up. I've got to make the adjustment there and put us in a better position to win that game."

He was pleased to rally and get through five innings.

"I think the fifth inning was when I was throwing it best," deGrom said about his final frame, when he consecutively retired Teixeira, Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran. "I actually got the ball down then, but they already had done the damage. I wanted to go back out there for those and put up some zeroes."

All three homers were hit to the friendliest part of Yankee Stadium -- beyond the short right-field wall.

"They were hit hard and they got out," deGrom said. "That's the ballpark, and that's what it is."

As for the Mets' now-over 11-game winning streak, the reigning NL Rookie of the Year added: "That was a lot of fun. We were playing really good baseball, and it was mainly starting with the pitching, and guys picking each other up and getting runs when we needed them."

Said manager Terry Collins: "It's disappointing, because we were on a nice roll. And I know the Yankees have been playing very well. But we're surprised when Jake doesn't have his good stuff. And tonight he didn't have it."
