ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court Thursday halted the execution of death sentence of three accused who were schedule to be hanged in Karachi and Mianwali jails.
Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk heard the cases in his chamber and stayed the execution of death sentence and fixed the matter for hearing before a two-member bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh.
The accused Moin-ud-Din and Muhammad Azam were schedule to be hanged in Karachi jail. They had killed a man in Karachi. The Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi, had awarded them death sentence, which was upheld by the Sindh High Court.
In the second case, Abdur Rehman had to be given death sentence in Mianwali Jail. Abdur Rehman had killed two policemen in 2001. He was awarded sentence under 7ATA and section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code.
Ghulam Mustafa Kandwal, appearing on behalf of Abdur Rehman, informed the court that his client had compromised with the deceased family. He said that they have submitted the agreement before the sessions court but it had turned down the compromise.
The hearing was adjourned till first week of May.
