The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) probing the drug deal case, involving police officers at the Kalamassery station and medical seat scam accused Kavitha Pillai, will submit its final investigation report in the Thrissur Vigilance Court next week.
Superintendent of Police of the VACB Kochi unit K.M. Antony said the sleuths were slated to interrogate Kavitha Pillai in this connection on April 27.
“We have already recorded statements of the two petitioners and police officers involved in the alleged bribery case while the interrogation of the woman was scheduled to be held on Friday. As she had to appear before a court in connection with another case, her interrogation has now been postponed to Monday,” said Mr. Antony.
The sleuths have received information about the role of more policemen in the case and discovered discrepancies in the operation of the shadow wing of the city police.
Earlier in March, the VACB registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act with Poulose, a grade sub inspector with the Kalamassery station as the first accused, and Kavitha Pillai as the second accused and sent a First Information Report to the Thrissur Vigilance Court.
The FIR was registered after a preliminary investigation unearthed evidences linking the medical seat scam accused Kavitha Pillai and a couple of policemen at Kalamassery station. The case pertains to a petition filed by Geetha, a native of Malappuram, that states that two policemen accepted a bribe of Rs.18,000 through Kavitha Pillai for settling a ganja case registered against her son. Even after her son had been granted bail, Kavitha further demanded Rs. 2 lakh.
A few days into its investigation, the VACB received another complaint from an Edappally resident, Ansal, alleging that the police officers withdrew Rs.12,000 from his bank account through a friend when he was in the lock-up at Kalamassery police station.
