Plans to boost tourism in Jodeghat

Tourism dept. to start light and sound show

The Principal Secretary Tourism, B.P. Acharya on Friday said the government was contemplating to start a light and sound show at the historic Jodeghat village in Kerameri mandal of Adilabad district as part of tourism development at the place.

Without going deeper into the issue, he said a similar show was being planned at the temple town of Basar also.

Mr. Acharya and Director, Culture, Christina Z. Changthu visited Jodeghat village to inspect the site of various buildings which will come up as part of the Kumram Bheem memorial park. Jodeghat is the place where legendary Gond leader Kumaram Bheem had attained martyrdom in 1940 and which was promised to be developed as a tourism centre by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a cost of Rs. 25 crore.

Interacting with officials, the Principal Secretary said the arch at the entrance to the village, a memorial for the martyr and landscaping at the place would be ready by October when the 75th martyrdom anniversary of Bheem would be observed. He said the museum would come up in a phased manner.

Mr. Acharya assured Jodeghat villagers that there would be no dislocation of their habitation owing to the development. Developing tourism would in fact bring prosperity to the village as business is likely to grow, he added.

The villagers led by patel Pendur Somu urged the officials to sanction a road linking Jodeghat to Asifabad via Movvad.

Collector M. Jagan Mohan and Utnoor ITDA Project Officer R.V. Karnan were also present besides, engineering officials.
