35 low-floor buses flagged off

: Minister for Transport Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that two new services aimed at pilgrims going to Tirupati and Velankanni would commence operations soon.

Speaking at the flagging off of the service of low floor buses received by the district under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, here on Friday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said KSRTC has been able to increase its daily revenue to Rs. 5.5 crore on average, denoting an increase of Rs. 1.5 crore daily.

Under the new scheme, the district has been assigned 35 low floor buses. Out of these, 10 are air conditioned services starting from Kottayam depot, he said.Meanwhile, the work on the modern bus terminal here would begin shortly, he said. Already, Rs. 3 crore has been sanctioned from the Asset Development fund of the MLA for the construction of the garage. In addition to the ongoing road development works, the completion of the Rs. 30 crore terminal building, would ease pressure on the roads, he said.
