MANGALURU: Chief minister Siddaramaiah said the jurisdiction of lone women’s University in state at Vijayapura will be extended to all districts with a view to imparting quality education to women.
Speaking after inaugurating the new building of Hira Women’s Composite PU College at Thokkottu, CM said gender inequality was persisting across all sections of the society.
This can only be bridged by giving women quality education through such institutions, he added.
The CM who visited three religious places of different communities on one-day, said value based education was a must to inculcate humane qualities among the younger generation. He was speaking at Manjanady Al-Madeena Yateem Khana. He assured all possible help from the government for the orphanage. He said the government does not discriminate between any religion but some bigots were spreading canards and urged people to be wary of them.
At Mudipu, St Joseph Vaz Shrine, the chief minister said Rs 25 lakh will be given for the integrated development of the parish. The CM was greeted by Mangalore Diocese Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza among others. The CM had to visit the shrine earlier on January 16 during the commemoration function of Blessed Joseph Vaz at Mudipu. He had to cancel all his public programmes for the day as state announced a day’s mourning due to the death of former state governor Rameshwar Thakur.
The CM visited Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple in Kuttar and participated in the inauguration function of the new building of Hira Women’s Composite Pre-University College. Later he laid the foundation stone for new office building of Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee in Mallikatte and addressed party workers. He then took part in the Uroos programme at Sayyed Madani Darga, Ullal leaving for Bengaluru late on Friday night.
Though the CM was scheduled to visit Mangaluru at 10.30am, he arrived a good two hours late at 12.30pm leaving all the programmes in disarray. But the CM made sure that he visited all the places he was scheduled to.
