The ‘padayatra’ of farmers which started from Naragund in Gadag district on April 8 entered Tumakuru city on Friday.

Addressing the farmers, State president of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS), Maruthi Manpade said that the ‘padayatra is being held to oppose the anti-farmer policies of the Union and State governments.

Their main demand to the Union government is to withdraw the Land Acquisition ordinance.

He alleged that the ordinance would snatch the rights of the farmer to decide whether or not to sell his land and to decide a price on it.

He alleged that the land acquired by exploiting farmers would be given as a gift to corporate companies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The farmers will hold ‘Vidhana Soudha Chalo’ on April 28, opposing the ordinance.

As many as 11 organisations, including the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, and Dalit organisations are participating in the padayatra.
