Abbott tours Gallipoli battlefields

RONALD Campbell, 92, was leaning on a walking stick and waiting patiently with his granddaughter and friend when Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his entourage barrelled into Beach Cemetery on the Gallipoli peninsula.

MR Abbott had flown into the nearby town of Canakkle earlier on Friday, taken a car to the peninsula, and then walked from Lone Pine down the steep and rocky Artillery Road track to the shores of the Aegean Sea.
