I an interview with Four Four two magazine, the goal scoring machine says that he has struck up a great understanding with Alves since he joined the club for €32m in 2008.

"We all get on well, but I've always been closest to Dani Alves, because we played down the right of the pitch together when he joined Barça," he said.

"We've spent a lot of time together on and off the pitch and we've developed a great friendship in our personal lives. That also helps a lot in games".

The media-shy Messi also added that centre-half Gerard Pique is also a good friend off the pitch.

"There are moments when he jokes around, but when it comes to playing football there are only two things I would use to describe him: serious and hard-working".
