BATON ROUGE, La. - Danny Zardon's run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted top-ranked LSU to a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Texas A&M in the opening game of their Southeastern Conference baseball series Thursday.

Jared Foster scored the winning run after getting a single and advancing on a wild pitch.

The Aggies (36-6, 12-6 SEC) took a 1-0 lead in the first on Nick Banks' RBI single. They made it 2-0 an inning later on Michael Barash's RBI single.

The Tigers (36-6, 13-5) tied it in the fourth on RBIs by Andrew Stevenson and Chris Chinea and took a 3-2 lead in the seventh on an error.

A&M tied it in the top of the ninth. J.B. Moss tripled and scored on Logan Nottebrok's single.

Skeeters open

with 4-1 victory

The Skeeters opened the Atlantic League baseball season with a 4-1 victory over Lancaster at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

Five Skeeters pitchers combined to limit the Barnstormers to seven hits and no earned runs. Sean Gallagher started and went four innings before giving way to Roy Merritt, who went two innings and got the win. Merritt was followed by Andrew Johnson, Cory Van Allen and Robbie Weinhardt, who earned the save.

Chris Wallace paced the Sugar Land offense with two doubles and an RBI.

for Zurich lead

Boo Weekley had an eagle and seven birdies for an 8-under-par 64 and a share of the first-round lead with Brendon de Jonge in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at Avondale, La. De Jonge had eight birdies at rain-softened TPC Louisiana.

Lydia Ko settled for a tap-in birdie on the par-5 14th after her eagle chip deflected off the pin, and the defending champion shot a 5-under 67 to take the first-round lead in the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic at Daly City, Calif.

Griner, fiancée

jailed after fight

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner and her fiancée - fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson - were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct after an argument in the home they recently purchased together became physical.

The two 24-year-olds were arrested Wednesday on counts of assault by recklessly causing physical injuries and disorderly conduct for fighting. They were booked into the Maricopa County Jail in downtown Phoenix and later released.

Griner told police that she and Johnson had been arguing every day and got into each other's faces in the home they had bought two days earlier after Johnson said Griner "disrespected" her, according to a police report.

Predators to win

Rookie Filip Forsberg had his first career hat trick, and Nashville forced a sixth game in their NHL Western Conference first-round series by beating visiting Chicago 5-2.

Tyler Johnson led a Tampa Bay rally late in regulation and then scored 2:25 into overtime to lift the Lightning to a 3-2 victory at Detroit, evening their Eastern Conference playoff series at 2-2.

Rookie Evgeny Kuznetsov scored twice, Karl Alzner added a goal and an assist, and Washington beat the visiting New York Islanders 5-1 for a 3-2 lead in their Eastern Conference series.
