NSDC signs MoU on skill development with SAIT

JAMMU, Apr 23: An MoU on Skill Development in the Hydrocarbon Sector was signed by Dilip HM Chenoy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Rod Miller, Associate vice-president, Corporate Training Solutions, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The MoU was signed recently in the presence of Hydrocarbon Sector delegation consisting of LN Gupta, Secretary, Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB), Biswajit Roy, Executive Director (HRD), Indian Oil and Shailesh Tiwari, Chief HRD Manager, Indian Oil at Ottawa in Canada.
The MoU would aid developing expertise in areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning resources development, occupational standards, testing and certification, labour market information system (LMIS), etc. The MoU also provides expertise in settling Academies of Excellence (AoE) based on the extensive experience of the SAIT in the hydrocarbon recovery and production sector.
SAIT is a global leader in applied education, renowned for its training expertise and industry-based applied research. In line with the vision of Government of India to skill 500 million people by 2022, NSDC has taken lead by setting up 31 Sector Skills Councils viz. automotives, apparels, capital goods, Iron & steel, hydrocarbon and power, etc. The Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC) has an ambition target of skilling approximately two million people in the next 10 years to meet the demand of Oil & Gas Industry in India and abroad.
OIDB is the nodal agency, along with PetroFed for setting up of HSSC. Indian Oil is leading the Industry team in formulation of detailed framework for HSSC including its vision, mission and identification of 134 job roles (trades) pertaining to exploration & production (upstream), midstream & gas, oil refining & marketing (downstream) and construction & services.
