AHMEDABAD: These three heavyweight children give a new definition to plump and chubby kids. The siblings, all morbidly obese, can melt many hearts with their cuteness quotient and a grim future due to the excess weight carried by them. Not only is their family burdened with a food bill that is three times more than the Rs 150 per day, the siblings run a huge risk to their lives.

Rajkot-based Ramesh and Pragna Nandwana have brought their three children — Yogita, five-and-a-half years, weighing 33.5kg, Amisha three-and-a-half years, weighing 47kg, and Harsh one-and-a-half years, weighing 16kg — to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
The children hit headlines when it was reported that the poor parents are working two shifts and selling off whatever valuables they have to feed their children. “Yogita and Amisha eat 10 rotlas in each meal. One rotla is akin to fine rotis. Little Harsh is breastfeeding and guzzles over two litres extra milk".
A kind woman Ragini Shastri adopted the kids and is helping the family sustain the expenses to feed them.
Assistant professor of pediatrics department Dr Charul Purani said the children are being evaluated along with pediatric endocrinologist Dr Ruchi Shah.
“We have ordered complete work-up of the children including liver, kidney, heart, brain tests along with hormonal tests to know the exact cause of the problem. Interestingly, the eldest sister of the children is normal. Primary clinical evaluation has not thrown up any single cause responsible for such morbid obesity in these kids. It could be hormonal, syndromic or a mix. We will be able to make a diagnosis once all test reports arrive", said Dr Purani.
