The Holenarasipur police have filed a case against Gidde Gowda from Bittagowdanahalli in Holenarsipur taluk for providing a false information about the goods stolen from his house on April 3.

Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta told the presspersons here on Thursday that Mr. Gidde Gowda’s house at Bittagowdanahall was burgled on April 3, when he and his family members had gone on a picnic.

In the complaint lodged with the Holenarsipur police, Mr. Gowda had claimed that the thieves had stolen 35 gm gold and Rs. 10,000 in cash.

Later, the police arrested Ramesh, also a resident of Bittagowdanahalli, in connection with the burglary and recovered from him about 14 gm gold. “When the police enquired about the remaining gold, the accused said he had stolen only 14 gm gold. In fact, Mr. Gidde Gowda pledged about 21-gm gold ornaments for a loan from a pawnbroker at Channarayapatna about four months before the burglary. The accused had also stolen the receipt given by the pawnbroker, along with the gold items and burnt it later,” the official said.

The police enquired with the complainant, when Mr. Gidde Gowda confessed to have provided false information about the quantity of stolen gold. “We have booked a case against the complainant now,” the official said. The case has been registered under the Section 203 of the Indian Penal Code that deals with giving information about an offence.

The accused revealed the details of stolen gold ornaments, which was much less than what had been mentioned in

the complaint
