A total of 3,290 playgrounds and 1,030 tanks have been developed across the State under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act during the last one year.

In a reply to the debate on MNREGA implementation in the Assembly on Thursday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil said many permanent assets have been created under the scheme.

Among these are 3,290 playgrounds against the target of 9,000. Each panchayat has been assigned the task of developing two playgrounds in 2015-16, he said. On pending bills of works executed under the scheme, he said the Centre had not released funds this month. A memorandum would be submitted, seeking early release of funds.

Karnataka Lokayukta has been probing irregularities in pending bills of the last three years, he said.
