A call to observe the World Book Day by participating in a mass reading programme evoked a good response at Kotagiri on Thursday. It was organised under the aegis of the Branch Library, Kotagiri and the Kotagiri Readers Forum.

With the run up to the programme titled ‘confluence of readers’ having been marked by a week long campaign to promote the habit of reading in Kotagiri and the villages surrounding it over 6,000 people had gathered at the venue-the Gandhi Maidan.

All the participants had brought books of their choice with them.

Pointing out that the turn out proved that the habit of reading is still very strong the organisers and some of the participants said that it augurs well for the future.

Coimbatore Staff Reporter adds:

As many as 30 books were launched by Vijaya Pathipagam to mark the World Book Day celebration organised by them at PSG College of Technology here on Thursday. M. Velayutham of Vijaya Pathipagam said that all the books are in Tamil and cover topics such as literature, health, religion and children. A 25 per cent discount was given to customers. A book exhibition was also organised to mark the day.
