Religious fervour marks Adisankara Jayanti fete

The birth anniversary of Adisankara, the propounder of Advaita philosophy, was celebrated with religious fervour here on Thursday.

‘Upanayanam’ was performed en masse for boys frees of cost by the Brahamana Seva Samiti on Vaishaka Shuddha Panchami day, said its Secretary P. Ramachandramurthy.

Devotees recited ‘Kanakadhara Stotram’ compiled by Adisankara hailing Goddess Mahalakshmi, followed by singing of ‘Bhaja Govindam’ in praise of Lord Vishnu.

Procession

In Markapur, a grand procession with the portrait of Adisankara was taken out from the Jagadamba Sameta Markandeswara Swamy temple amid recitation of Vedas, said Organising Committee member Jonnabhatla Ramu Sarma. Upanayanam was performed for boys.
