It’s a one-family show, says Shabbir

April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - KAMAREDDY (NIZAMABAD DIST.):

Former Minister and senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir wanted Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to announce his and his party stand on the Modi Government’s proposed Bill to amend the Land Acquisition Act.

Accusing Mr. Rao of making contradictory statements, he wanted to know as to whether the TRS is for or against the Land Acquisition Act brought about by the Congress-led UPA Government in 2013. Is the TRS in favour of poor farmers or rich people, he questioned. Addressing a well-attended public meeting here on Thursday, he said that the KCR Government created rift among poor families with the decision to sanction only one Aasara pension to each household. He failed to fulfil even a single promise in his ten month rule, which has become a one-family show, said Mr. Ali.

Congress cadres gave Mr. Shabbir a rousing reception as he came to the constituency for the first time after assuming the party floor leadership in the Legislative Council. His followers and the party cadres took him in the motorcycle rally from Baswapur, the entrance point of the district on National Highway-44, to the town and to the venue. A large number of activists and people from Kamareddy, Yellareddy, Banswada and Nizamabad attended the meeting.

Urging the government to immediately revive the Pranahitha-Chevella project, he said that the project is very useful to the parched Kamareddy division as it could irrigate 1.50 lakh acres, besides meeting the drinking water needs of villages. He said after spending Rs.800 crore on the project, the government is rethinking about its continuation. Suresh Shetkar, former MP, said the Chief Minister dashed the hopes of scores of unemployed youth who fought for Telangana by not filling vacancies. Telangana betrayers are being given importance by taking them into Cabinet, he said.

Former MLA S. Gangaram, State Mahila Congress president Akula Lalitha, DCC president Taher Bin Hamdan and party leaders -- Mahesh Kumar Goud and N. Surender -- also spoke.
