Bajrangi gets 3-month bail

The division bench of the HC granted interim bail plea moved by Bajrangi’s son Tarun Patel seeking his release for 90 days to undergo eye treatment.

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday granted three months interim bail to former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Babu Patel alias Babu Bajrangi who is serving life imprisonment till death in 2002 Naroda Patiya riot case.

The division bench of the HC headed by Justice Ravi R Tripathi granted interim bail plea moved by Bajrangi’s son Tarun Patel seeking his release for 90 days to undergo eye treatment.

One of the certificates issued by CSLC Cure Sight Laser Centre by Dr Parimal M Desai mentions that, “…In view of his deteriorated vision in both eyes, he is advised continuous follow up visit, supervision and treatment at the hands of expert retinal surgeon and at the best centre. Control of diabetes. Complete rest. Otherwise there are chances that he may go blind in both eyes. Right now he doesn’t have useful vision at all in both eyes…”

Earlier this month, the hearing on Bajrangi’s appeal against conviction along with co-accused, including Maya Kodnani, was stayed by the order of Supreme Court after the victims and Special Investigation Team , which probed the case, approached the court requesting a stay.
