PM’s visit aims to assuage Saudi reservations: Fazl

Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman has said that the prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia, aims at assuaging the reservations of the Kingdom on the Yemen conflict.

While talking to reporters outside the parliament today, Fazal said that the Saudi government has reservations on the resolution passed by the National Assembly. Pakistan’s stance of opposing sending troops to Yemen, evoked a strong reaction from the UAE, whose foreign minister issued a hilling response saying, the Arab world must understand who was their friend and foe.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have been on rocky relations after the former showed its reluctance to commit to the Saudi demand, of sending troops to fight the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Pakistan has declared that it would defend the Kingdom, if its territorial integrity comes under attack from the Houthi rebels. The assurance has, however, failed to pacify the Saudi government’s reservations about Pakistan’s commitment to defend the Kingdom if it comes under any attack.
