Online travel services provider MakeMyTrip acquires startup ‘guide’ Mygola

Online travel services provider MakeMyTrip on Tuesday acquired certain assets of startup travel guide firm Mygola.com and the entire Mygola team has joined them.

Anshuman Bapna, CEO, Mygola said, “We’ve always taken pride in being laser-focused on the traveller’s needs and rethinking online travel planning. MakeMyTrip is the leader in one of the world’s most exciting travel markets, and the team is super-excited to bring all this knowledge to the millions of MakeMyTrip travellers.”

The firm did not disclose financial details of the deal, but MakeMyTrip Group CEO Deep Kalra said the company has acquired 100 per cent of Mygola.

Founded in 2009 by Anshuman Bapna and Prateek Sharma, Mygola raised capital from Helion Ventures, Blumberg Capital, 500Startups and numerous angels. The company built a website (mygola.com) that covers more than 20,000 destinations worldwide, sees half a million organic visitors a month and was nominated twice for the Top Innovator at PhoCusWright.

Deep Kalra, Group CEO, MakeMyTrip India said, “I’ve known the Mygola team for over four years now and they have fantastic product expertise, especially in the mobile space. We look forward to their energy and enthusiasm as they join this exciting ride.”

Earlier in the day, Mygola tweeted, “Thrilled to announce that @mygola has been acquired @makemytrip.” This was followed by MakeMyTrip’s “Welcome to the family @mygola! This is going to be epic!,” tweet.

 


The acquisition has been done through their earlier announced Innovation Fund, which is formed to invest in start-up or early-stage companies in the travel technology space. The financial terms were not disclosed.

Mygola CEO Anshuman Bapna said: “Our team is super excited to bring all the knowledge to the millions of MakeMyTrip travellers.”

Mygola’s iOS app was also picked up by Apple as a “Best new app”.

MakeMyTrip’s services and products include air tickets, customised holiday packages, hotel bookings, railway tickets, bus tickets, car hire and facilitating access to travel insurance.
