THIS is apropos a news report wherein the government is considering proposals to deploy Pakistan naval ships for inspection of Yemen-bound vessels (April 18).
This is being done to comply with the UN Security Council resolution. Why should Pakistan involve itself in this imbroglio just for the love of the UN or to prove loyalty to the Saudis?
Let the UN make a task force, and the Pakistan Navy can by all means be a part of this force. Just passing resolutions is a futile activity and means nothing. The UN resolution on Kashmir has now become almost redundant and no Muslim country has ever taken an initiative to get this resolution implemented.
Imposing an embargo on the high seas would be quite an uphill task and can lead to uncalled-for situations. We are neither a superpower nor an international player that we should take the onus of implementing world peace on ourselves.
Let us mind our own business and look after our own house. If the government is keen to pay back its debt to the Saudi royal family, it should do it at a personal level and not by endangering the interests of the nation.
